south africa - group trip
August 2 to 10
Work on a social project that transforms the reality of children and young people in Cape Town. Do good and have your life positively impacted by this trip!
partner project
Ubuntu Project was founded in 2008 with the aim of teaching the principles of the Ubuntu humanitarian philosophy. Through social initiatives, children, young people and adults have the opportunity to experience the philosophy in the field, practicing its values and focusing on their personal development through educational activities and the promotion of professional skills.
The organization welcomes volunteers, interns and students from all over the world and, more than a community work and social transformation activist, it is a school in the construction of human character and has contributed to the shaping of a new South Africa: with more possibilities and fewer social discrepancies.
The project currently supports two communities in Cape Town that lack resources and government support: Masiphumelele and Ocean View , where Karibu groups have been operating since 2022.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
Those who identify needs are those who feel them. Karibu, in partnership with community leaders, identifies which needs need to be addressed and the best ways to address them, through social activities and aiming for consistent results.
It is important for you to know that it is not necessary to have any specific knowledge to take part in this trip, as Karibu will previously train the group in carrying out the activities developed. The most important thing is to be proactive in learning, teaching and acquiring new skills. Furthermore, if participants have knowledge that can be added to the projects, they can also apply it by aligning with us.
Check out below some of the activities that will be developed, in 2025, with Projékt Ubuntu:

CHILDREN
EDUCATION
Art, reading, sports and school support workshops for children from communities supported by the project.

EMPOWERMENT
SOCIAL
Debate groups with young people and women about sexuality, drugs, profession, violence, among other taboo topics.

SUSTAINABILITY
AND ENVIRONMENT
I work on community sustainability projects, through planting, workshops and green initiatives.

The group will be staying at the cozy home of the project’s founders, Candi and Sidney. The property is located in the Kommetjie neighborhood, a 40-minute drive from Cape Town city center. The accommodation is spacious, well-equipped and has several bedrooms to accommodate groups. It also has a beautiful view of the surrounding area and Noordhoek Beach.
The rooms will be shared by the group, as well as the bathrooms and kitchen. Proactivity is expected in keeping the beds made, dishes washed and respecting the quiet hours, after 10 pm.
Breakfast and dinner will always be served at the accommodation. Lunch will be at the group's expense (except on 02, 04 and 05/08). The coordinator will recommend pleasant and reasonably priced bistros in the neighborhood.

sdg and coordination
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a global agenda adopted by the UN in 2015, consisting of 17 goals and 169 targets to be achieved by 2030. Karibu's work, together with Projékt Ubuntu, is based on SDG 4 - QUALITY EDUCATION , aiming to promote effective and relevant learning opportunities for children, young people and adults in Cape Town.
Aiming for excellence in the activities that will be carried out, the trip will have a coordinator responsible for guiding the mission and able to assist the group in whatever is necessary. Learn a little more about her:

She has carried out volunteer work in more than 10 countries, published 2 books on the social sphere (Ubuntu and Arena), and coordinated several groups of volunteers on 3 different continents. testimonials
Amidst so many adversities, volunteering in South Africa transformed a challenging experience into a super welcoming trip. Candy's hospitality, along with her purpose in social projects, made kindness transcend beyond volunteer work. It was a unique trip, full of surprises, laughter, learning and a lot of gratitude!
The trip to South Africa with Karibu was responsible for a great internal movement and great reflections for me. During it I had the opportunity to get to know several different realities in the same country, and incredible institutions that taught me how to think and act in each situation.
While we experienced the difficulties of society in the field that affected us deeply, we had all the support from Karibu and Candi, who welcomed us into their own home and made us feel truly at home and hopeful about our work. Furthermore, being in such a beautiful country as South Africa and being able to combine tourism with an action that we know will have a social impact is, for me, the best way to get to know a new country!
