COMMUNITY SUPPORTED

In the heart of the Amazon, lives the Três Unidos indigenous community, located in the Rio Negro Environmental Protection Area (APA), 60 km from Manaus. The indigenous people belong to the Kambeba ethnic group, totaling 120 people who make up 38 families, whose main source of income is tourism.

The Kambeba are a distinct indigenous people who have very particular languages, dances, foods and traditions. Its origin is Peruvian, having come to Brazil through the rivers in small boats in the last century. Currently, there is Kambeba in Solimões and also in Rio Negro. In addition to tourism, the local population also generates income through the handicrafts they make. Ancestry is something important, which elders seek to share with younger people.

SOCIAL activities

Those who identify needs are those who feel them. Karibu, in partnership with local leaders, identifies which needs can be addressed and the best ways to execute them, through social activities, aiming for consistent results.

Interested parties will be able to act on different fronts, depending on their skills. It is not necessary to have any specific knowledge, as Karibu will provide prior training in the execution of the activities developed. The most important thing is proactivity to learn, teach and acquire new experiences. The following actions will be structured:

Mental health and NVC

The topics are still taboo in the community and little is said about them. We will do
dynamics and conversation circles aimed at demystifying mistaken ideas and providing more clarity on the topics.

Tourism and hospitality

Tourism is the community's largest source of income, therefore, we will hold workshops to provide instructions on how to welcome tourists, valuing their crafts and services in the best possible way.

Environment and sustainability

Volunteers will have the opportunity to work with the land, learning,
planting and harvesting whatever is necessary for the subsistence of the community and development of the Amazon forest!

Immersion and incentive activities

Canoeing, archery classes, night in the forest and many others experiences will also be considered as an opportunity for cultural immersion and support for services provided by the community.
