westygateh high school

Discover one of Kenya's most inspiring schools,

a benchmark for so many others around the world.

WestyGateh is a high school located in the city of Watamu, on Kenya's coast. The school began in 2017 with just 2 students and its founder, Mr. David Karani, teaching all subjects. Through hard work, the school has grown and now has over 250 students, 11 teachers, and many staff members.

In addition to the mandatory curriculum, students participate in various extracurricular activities such as debates, counseling, and agricultural practice to prepare them for real-life situations. The school's motto is: Education is Light, because their believe that through school it is possible to illuminate the future of young people and their families.

The students also have access to a chemistry lab, a physics lab, and a chicken coop so they can apply the knowledge they've acquired in the classroom in practice.

CHALLENGES:

Currently, there are 30 students who cannot afford the tuition fees and, because they live far from the school, sleep in very humble conditions in the surrounding area. These students have been welcomed by the principal, Mr. David, and are being given the opportunity to study with the goal of entering university and changing their families' lives. Any help is greatly appreciated for these students. Donations of school supplies, uniforms, and sponsorships are needed. Furthermore, the school is in dire need of assistance with water and electricity supplies, as well as projects that will lead to greater self-sustainability so that it can enroll more students.

UNIQUE FEATURES:

WestyGate is not just a high school; it's an instrument of transformation in the lives of many young people who, through education, are lifting their families out of poverty and gaining admission to the best universities in the country. Here, teachers teach with passion, students are eager to learn, and everyone helps each other towards bright futures. For the coming years, we aim to make the school more technologically advanced, using projectors in classrooms, artificial intelligence platforms, and daily computer classes.
