discover the wonderful South Africa on a journey full of solidarity

Make a difference in the lives of children in Cape Town, in partnership with the Projékt Ubuntu, which has supported peripheral communities for over 15 years, promoting social activities for the benefit of the local population.

social project

Projékt Ubuntu was founded in 2008, by the couple Sidney and Candi, with the aim of disseminating the principles of Ubuntu (African philosophy about humanity). By supporting two resource-poor communities in Cape Town, Masiphumelele and Ocean View, children and young people have the opportunity to develop humanitarian values, expand their educational activities and encourage future professional skills.

Since 2010, the organization has welcomed volunteers, interns and students from all over the world. The project is more than a community and activist work for social transformation, it is a school in the construction of human character that has contributed to the shaping of a new South Africa.

social activities

Those who identify needs are those who feel them. Karibu, in partnership with Projékt Ubuntu, identifies the needs to be addressed and the best ways to execute them. No specific knowledge is required to carry out the trip, as Karibu will provide online training to carry out the activities. The most important thing is to be proactive in learning and acquiring new skills.

Check out some of the proposed activities below:

CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

Art, reading, sports and tutoring workshops for children in the communities supported by the project.

SOCIAL EMPOWERMENT

Conversation with young people and women about sexuality, drugs, profession, violence, among other topics.

SUSTAINABILITY AND ENVIRONMENT

Work on community sustainability projects, through plantings, workshops and green initiatives.

schedule

In this individual type of travel, you are the one who organizes the schedule and according to your pace. We will send you a suggestion of daily activities and our local team will provide support to make your days very special.

You can stay as many days as you wish in the project (from 6 nights), considering on the first and last day the transfer between Cape Town airport (or the hotel you stayed in) and the accommodation. This journey will be done in a private car with one of our partners, taking around 35 minutes.

accommodation & logistics

You will stay in the cozy home of the project's founders, located in the Kommetjie neighborhood, 35 minutes from the center of Cape Town. The accommodation is spacious, well equipped and has several rooms. Furthermore, it has a beautiful view of the surrounding area and the mountains in the region. The bedrooms are shared, as are bathrooms and the kitchen. Proactivity is expected in keeping the bed made, dishes washed and respecting quiet hours after 10 pm.

Breakfast and dinner are served at the accommodation. If you have dietary restrictions or intolerances, don't worry, we will adapt according to possibilities. Lunch will be on your own, we will recommend bistros and restaurants in the surrounding area that are super tasty and reasonably priced.

Daily transport, between accommodation and social projects, can be done via Uber or private car (if you choose to rent one). Distances are short, taking a maximum of 5 minutes. We will provide all directions and the local team will also be able to assist with whatever is needed.

In the midst of so much adversity, volunteering in South Africa turned a challenging experience into a super welcoming trip. Candy's hospitality, along with her purpose in social projects, transcended kindness beyond volunteer work. It was a unique trip, full of surprises, laughter, learning and a lot of gratitude!

The trip to South Africa with Karibu was responsible for a lot of internal movement and great reflections for me. There I had the opportunity to learn about several different realities in the same country, and incredible institutions that taught me how to think and act in each situation.
At the same time that we experienced societal difficulties in the field that affect us greatly, we had full support from Karibu and Candi, who welcomed us into their own home and really made us feel at home and hopeful about our work. Furthermore, being in a country as beautiful as South Africa and being able to combine tourism with an action that we know will have a social impact is, for me, the best way to get to know a new country!

Make a difference and have a transformative experience based on loving others and building a more equitable South Africa.
